The championship game was played against the powerhouse Edina Hornets, and the underdogs Lakeville North Panthers. The game started off which looked like to be a close game. The Hornets had an early goal in the game at 2:09 by Casey Dornbach making it 1-0. Later on in the period at 9:35 Max Johnson from Lakeville North scored at 9:35 with a good shot from the low slot. Just less than a minute after, Edina’s Ben Foley scored, and Miguel Fidler shortly after him at 13:16 making it 3-1 Hornets. Just over a minute after the Hornet’s third goal, Max Johnson gets his second of the game making it 3-2 at the end of the first period.
From here on out it was pure domination from the Hornets. At 5:36 in the second period Miguel Fidler scored his second goal of the game, then Parker Mismash at 8:03, then shortly after Kieffer Bellows at 9:53, making the score 6-2 Hornets.
Lakeville North obviously went into the third period with a doubt, since they were down by four to start the final period against the number one team in the state. Edina had two more goals in the third period; at 5:19 by Kieffer Bellows his second goal of the game, and at 15:03 by Cullen Munson. The final score was 8-2, which is a big disappointment because it turned out to be a blowout and most of the time people enjoy a close game. Especially on the state championship game.
